Belarusian delegation attending the Eurasia Higher Education Summit in Istanbul

On 19-21 February 2020, the Istanbul-based Lütfi Kırdar Convention and Exhibition Centre played host to the 5th Eurasia Higher Education Summit (EURIE).

Under the initiative of the Belarusian Consulate General in Istanbul, for the first time ever the Summit was attended by a Belarusian delegation representing the Centre for International Relations of the Ministry of Education and prominent universities of Belarus including the Belarusian State University of Informatics and Radioelectronics, Belarusian National Technical University and Belarusian State University of Transport. The Belarusian State Economic University and Minsk State Linguistic University were indirectly involved with the Summit.

The National Stand “Education in Belarus” opened at the Summit brought in broader numbers of visitors, saw the launch of new inter-university links.

During the last day of the Summit on 21 February, those in attendance at the Belarusian Stand included Igor Karpenko, Minister of Education of Belarus, and Vladimir Gusakov, Chair of the Board of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, along with rectors of a few Belarusian Universities. Bilateral meetings with Zeliha Koҫak Tufan, Board Member of the Higher Education Council of Turkey, and Mustafa Aydın, President of the Eurasian Universities Union, brought about agreements about a concrete agenda of co-operation in the short run.
