Spring heralded in Gölcük

On 10 March 2024, at the gorgeous coastline of the Sea of Marmara, the Municipal Değirmendere Cultural Centre of the city of Gölcük played host to a Belarusian Spring-Heralding Festival.
The major organizers of the event supported by the Municipality which brought together around 100 guests were the Kocaeli Cultural Society of Belarusians and Russian-Speaking Community and Consulate General of Belarus in Istanbul. Ali Yıldırım Sezer, Mayor of Gölcük, also visited the event.
In his opening remarks, Aleksei Shved, Consul General of Belarus in Istanbul, noted the unifying role of culture as well as importance of its graceful presentation during the Year of Quality.
The folk festivities comprised a Maslenitsa-themed master class, competitions, games and dances, and the participants heralded spring by burning a symbolic effigy at the festive bonfire.
Finally, the guests treated themselves to pancakes and pies, and the children's cooking fair sparked overall excitement.
