Belarus presented at the International Flavour Festival in Istanbul

15.06.2022

On 15 June 2022, Galataport next to the Bosphorous at Istanbul’s historic and cultural centre played host to the opening of the International Beyoğlu Flavour Festival. Besides numerous Istanbul-based restaurants, the Consulates General of 14 countries (Azerbaijan, Belarus, Brazil, Indonesia, Italy, Kuwait, Lebanon, Libya, Malaysia, Mexico, Morocco, Russia and Tajikistan) presented traditional cuisine dishes at their national stalls.

The Belarusian stall showcased meat and cheese products in great numbers from the producers in Grodno Region, Belarusian teas and sweets. Katsiaryna Matusevich, a Belarusian diaspora activist, provided ample support to make sure the Belarusian cuisine was well presented. Belarusian gastronomic tourism received its own spotlight in promo videos played on the main festival screen.

During the opening day, Haydar Ali Yıldız, Mayor of Istanbul’s Beyoğlu, along with his wife visited the Belarusian stall. The Istanbul high-level officials met and talked with Aleksei Shved, Consul General of Belarus, and other stand representatives as they treated themselves to the Belarusian potato crepes and babka, fruit candies, and traditional culinary delights from Grodno Region.

The Belarusian diplomat gave an interview to one of the Turkish national news channel.

The five-day festival launched today is expected to have thousands of people in attendance who will learn more about the culture and travel opportunities of the countries represented at this feast of many flavours.
