Climate Finance Discussed in Istanbul

On September 5, 2026, the international conference “Towards COP31: Climate Finance Policy Dialogue” was held in Istanbul.
The event was dedicated to issues of climate finance, sustainable development, and attracting investment into the green economy.
Mehmet Şimşek, Minister of Treasury and Finance of the Republic of Türkiye, delivered a speech at the opening ceremony. In his address, he emphasized the importance of moving from discussing the climate agenda to the practical implementation of projects in renewable energy, industrial decarbonization, and private capital mobilization.
Yevgeniya Bortkevich, Consul General of the Republic of Belarus in Istanbul, took part in the conference. During the panel session “Green Finance Instruments,” she presented Belarus's potential in implementing environmentally oriented projects and developing sustainable agriculture, including the production and application of organic fertilizers.
On the sidelines of the event, E. Bortkevich met with Fatma Şahin, Mayor of the Gaziantep Metropolitan Municipality. The parties discussed prospects for developing Belarusian-Turkish cooperation in the agro-industrial sector and implementing joint initiatives.
The conference served as one of the preparatory platforms for the 31st Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP31), which will take place in Antalya from November 9 to 20, 2026. The Republic of Belarus will participate in the summit, continuing a constructive dialogue with international partners on sustainable development, environmental initiatives, and shaping a green future.
