Belarusian Kalyady went ahead in Istanbul
29.12.2018On 29 December 2018, the Consulate General of the Republic of Belarus in Istanbul staged traditional Kalyady festivities for the Belarusian community living in its consular district.
The festival went ahead at Istanbul’s Sevcan Hotel, bringing together over 150 people. The guests have extended a warm welcome to the theatrical gig involving Kalyady’s fairytale characters, Belarusian folk melodies and videos about Belarus throughout the entire event.
The little Belarusians whose numbers topped 70 enjoyed master classes as they were busy hand-devising Kalyady characters and singing a famous song about the Christmas Tree translated into Belarusian by Yanka Kupala. The kids particularly admired New Year gifts containing Belarusian sweets and congratulatory cards from Lesik the Fox, a mascot of the European Games 2019.
