Participation of the Consul General of Belarus in Istanbul in the Film Diplomacy Forum

06.07.2026

On 5 July 2026, the Consul General of the Republic of Belarus in Istanbul, Ms. Yauheniya Bartkevich, took part in the Film Diplomacy Forum held in Istanbul and spoke at the panel “Youth Cinema and Diplomacy in the Age of Global Conflict.”

During the discussion, participants examined the role of cinema and cultural diplomacy in strengthening international dialogue, preserving historical memory and promoting a peaceful agenda in the context of global conflicts. Particular attention was paid to the need to involve young people in creating honest and profound films about war, historical memory and the experiences lived by nations, since it is through cinema that we can preserve the truth about the past and prevent the tragic mistakes of history from being repeated.

In her remarks, Ms. Bartkevich underlined that cultural exchange today is not only a humanitarian initiative, but also a serious strategic instrument that helps to deepen mutual understanding between peoples and build trust between states. It was noted that already in November 2026 young directors from Belarus will take part in this project and present films devoted to war and historical memory. The Consul General invited renowned Turkish film director Can Ulkay to take part in the Minsk International Film Festival “Listapad”, which will be held at the end of October 2026. Both sides reaffirmed their interest in further developing Belarusian–Turkish cooperation in the fields of cinema, youth exchanges and cultural diplomacy.
