Strengthening cultural ties between Belarus and Turkey

On March 30, with the support of the Consulate General of the Republic of Belarus in Istanbul, events were held aimed at strengthening cultural ties between Belarus and Turkey and popularizing Belarusian literature abroad.

The signing ceremony of the cooperation agreement between the Yakub Kolas State Literary and Memorial Museum and the Ashiyan Tevfik Fikret Museum of Istanbul Municipality took place at Istanbul City Hall. On the Turkish side, the document was signed by the head of the Department of Culture, Art and Social Affairs of the Istanbul Municipality, Mr. Tolga Volkan Aslan, and on the Belarusian side by the Deputy Director of the Yakub Kolas State Literary and Memorial Museum, Maria Kazakevich.

The agreement provides for the implementation of joint cultural projects, the exchange of experience and the development of humanitarian contacts between the two institutions. The signed agreement is intended to become not just a legal document, but the beginning of a long-term lively dialogue between museums, cultural figures and residents of the two countries. There are plans to hold joint exhibitions, creative meetings, lectures and other events aimed at deeper mutual acquaintance with the culture and literature of Belarus and Turkey.

An important part of the day was a meeting at Istanbul Beykentuniversitesi dedicated to the work of Yakub Kolas. In the format of live communication with students and teachers, the life and legacy of the Belarusian writer were discussed, his works and their interpretations were heard. During the meeting, an agreement was reached on the translation of Yakub Kolas's poems into Turkish, followed by the publication of a separate translation collection, which will significantly expand the circle of Turkish readers familiar with Belarusian literature and will be a new step in the development of cultural dialogue.

The parties expressed confidence that the agreements reached and the signed agreement will serve as the basis for new joint projects and will further strengthen humanitarian ties between the Republic of Belarus and the Republic of Turkey.
